Synopsis:
Vijay plays the role of Vetrivel in Velayudham who lives with his mother and sister Kaveri ( played by Saranya Mohan) in the village. Hansika Motwani plays a village belle and is in love with Vijay. Vijay who wants to get his sister married, comes to Chennai to get the money saved for his sister's Marriage from the Chit Fund. At that point Vijay happens to meet Genelia D Souza who plays the role of Deepa, a journalist. Deepa, who witnesses an incident, where the goons of the city die mysteriously. Deepa creates a fictional story out of it and tells the world that a superhero named 'Velayudham', has been behind the eradication of this evil. Meanwhile Vijay escapes a bomb blast event by fate/ luck and people associate him to be a superhero. Later even Deepa convinces Vijay to become the superhero 'Velayudham'. Vijay too agrees to find the cheats behind the chit fund fraud and so dons the role of a superhero. The rest of the movie talks about how Vijay as the superhero protector/ savior fights the baddies.
