Super Sentai

(1975) TV series 1975-????

Genre:
Action + Sci-Fi + Family + Comedy

Synopsis:
(Super Sentai)
The durable and popular Super Sentai series started officially with Goranger and has been evolving every year since. Like many other sub-genres of tokusatsu, evolution is a slow yet dependable thing. Each year's show adds new elements, experiments with radical departures, but always retains enough of the predeccesor's appeal to ensure popularity. The Super Sentai series ability to adjust and adapt to the times makes it a great example of intelligent marketing, ingenious storytelling and imaginative innovation. To the casual observer, Super Sentai programs will all look the same, but this denies the true nature of the programs, which are one of the most rich and developed series' ever produced anywhere. To fully appreciate any Sentai series, the program should be viewed in its entirety, from start to finish. As the series has progressed over the years, story arcs have become even more complex and engrossing. The sub-genre's appeal may well rest on the fact that everything is combined into a smorgasbord: Non-stop action, a diversity of hero characters (for both men and women to emulate), a generous supply of special effects, great music, monsters and mecha, very cool villains and well-crafted melodrama. While each series varies and each fan has their own favorite, the Sentai Series as a whole represents (in this writer's opinion) the epitome of tokusatsu.
